Your child enters Kindergarten able to jump, recognize some colors, and might be able to zip up a coat or write their name. By the time they leave middle school, they have grown several inches, can logic through problems, have a greater sense of responsibility, and probably would rather hang out with friends than with Mom or Dad.
That is a mountain of development in a very short time period. At our FVL Schools, these important years include daily reminders to rely on and trust in God through the good times and the bad. Lessons in class, on the playground, and for discipline include developing a deeper understanding of Jesus as our Savior, and how that shapes everything we do.
How do I know if my child is ready for Kindergarten?
Some suggested developments include . . .
being able to separate from you easily and care for their needs with little to no help.
having some confidence when it comes to colors, shapes, letters, and numbers.
being able to interact with other children their age.
being able to read and write their name.
being able to hold a pencil and scissors correctly.
being able to wait their turn.
being able to follow directions.
speaking in complete sentences and in a way that is understood (most of the time).
How can I choose the best elementary school for my child?
Look for a school with teachers and staff who love what they do and who care for your child
Search for a school whose value systems are something you agree with, and where you think your child will be able to grow and develop according to what you value.
Look for caring teachers that show the love of Jesus in their teaching and provide a classroom atmosphere that emphasizes quality education.
Talk to parents and students who are currently at the school to get some insights on how things work and if they are happy.
Take a tour of the school and talk to the principal as well as to you child's potential teacher.
