Reminder - NO rehearsal on September 28
Remember that there will be no rehearsal at FVL on Saturday, September 28. There is a soccer tournament at FVL this weekend that involves most of the FVL Schools. Many of our band members are involved with this tournament, so to eliminate a very busy day we won't have rehearsal. I know of at least one volleyball tournament as well. Enjoy the "free" weekend!
Rehearsals leading up to our November concert will be on the following Saturdays:
October 5, 12 (Concert Vest Fittings on this day during rehearsa),
November 2, 9, 23
November 24 - Fall Concert (2:00 PM)
We only have six more rehearsals until our concert! Please make every effort to have your children attend our rehearsals.
Thanks to so many
I want to begin by saying "Thank You" to many groups and individuals. Thanks first to all of our FVL Schools Principals for assisting over the past several weeks to create the school lesson schedules. Many emails were sent back and forth, and they responded quickly with my requests to verify their school's band students. Thanks also to our band parents for taking care of the registrations. There were many new band registrations the last week of August and the first weeks of September. I want to thank both Mr. Kramer and Mrs. Nogar for their continued participation as directors of our Cadet Band and Concert Winds. There is always much preparation necessary on the parts of these directors as we begin another rehearsal and concert year. Having qualified educators for our band students is very important, and we have two of the best in Mr. Kramer and Mrs. Nogar! I want to thank all of the parents who created time in their weekend schedule to attend the band parent meeting two weeks ago. We had a very good attendance, and some very good discussion about our program and excellent questions from parents. Last, and certainly not least, is the thanks directed to the members of our FVL Schools Band Program! Their enthusiasm to be a part of something as special as this program is at the same time both humbling and inspiring for me! I realize the time and effort that is needed from each of these students to make our program successful. It isn't always easy to get up so early on a Saturday morning (for parents either!) to get to our rehearsals - but they do it anyway! Many sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of you!

WELS Middle School Honors Band Festival
FVL will be hosting the Third Annual WELS Middle School Honors Band Festival on Saturday, November 16. Needless to say, we are VERY excited to be hosting this special event! The first two festivals were held at Kettle Moraine Lutheran High School. Now it is our turn to host.
This festival will include middle school band students from every WELS high school program in Wisconsin. It will also include the students from the Illinois Lutheran High School program. So we will have students from the following programs, in addition to FVL and Illinois Lutheran - Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Jackson; Luther High School, Onalaska; Lakeside Lutheran High School, Lake Mills; Manitowoc Lutheran High School, Manitowoc; Northland Lutheran High School, Kronewetter; Shoreland Lutheran High School, Somers; Winnebago Lutheran Academy, Fond du Lac; and Wisconsin Lutheran High School, Milwaukee. The Festival Band will consist of approximately 55 - 60 selected students from these programs.
The guest Clinician/Conductor for the festival will be Paul Wendland, who was the band director at FVL from 1976 - 1998 (he was Mr. Neujahr's high school band director!). He also served as the band director at Martin Luther College, Lakeside Lutheran HS, and Kettle Moraine Lutheran HS. We are very pleased to welcome him back to the FVL Stage!
We will need volunteers in the following areas:
Meals and Snacks: We will be serving two meals that day - lunch and supper. There will also be a morning and afternoon "healthy snack" break. Volunteers will be requested to help plan the meals, shop if necessary, and prepare and serve the food. All costs will be covered or reimbursed by the FVL Schools Band Program. A Food Coordinator (or 2) is needed, with approximately 8 additional volunteers.
Welcome and Check-In: 3-4 volunteers to be on hand by about 8:30 AM to assist with checking in the schools when they arrive and showing the students and directors where their homerooms are for the day.
Concert Ushers: We will need approximately 6 - 8 volunteers to assist with handing out the concert programs, as well as collect the free-will offering.
Homeroom Monitors: 2 - 3 volunteers who can be around throughout the day (two six-hour shifts) to keep an eye on the school homerooms and make sure the rooms are clean and orderly at the end of the day.
