Only Two Rehearsals to Go!

We are now officially in "crunch time"!  Only two rehearsals to go until we present our Fall Concert.  The bands have been making excellent progress since we began rehearsals in September.  Seeing the progress from week to week is the best part of the "journey" that we collectively take to present a finished product. Thanks to all of our directors and band members for their dedication and willingness to make this wonderful music happen is such a short period of time.

Rehearsals leading up to our November concert will be on the following Saturdays:

November 9, 23
November 24 - Fall Concert (2:00 PM)

Please note there is no rehearsal on Saturday, November 16.  We are hosting the WELS Middle School Honors Band Festival that day.  All are welcome to the concert.  It will begin at 6:30 in the FVL Auditorium.

Our Fall Concert (November 24) will begin at 2:00 PM. This concert will feature our two FVL Schools Bands - the Cadet Band (beginning students) and the Concert Winds (students with more than one year of experience).  The FVL Symphonic Band will also participate in this concert.  It will be a wonderful opportunity to see the entire FVL band program, from beginners to high school!

Students will need to be at FVL by 1:15 PM on the day of the concert so they can receive their vests and have adequate time for group warm up before the concert begins.

Our bands will be sitting together as a group for the concert, so that each band can watch the other performances.  The order of performance will be the FVL Schools Cadet Band, the Concert Winds, and the FVL Symphonic Band.  A special treat again this year - the Concert Winds and the FVL Symphonic Band will play a selection as a combined band!  That song will serve as our "Grand Finale" to a wonderful concert.  So that you can plan your afternoon, the concert should be over before between 3:00 and 3:15 PM.

When students arrive on concert day, they should go to their "normal" rehearsal rooms - Cadet Band to the Fine Arts Room and the Concert Winds to the Band Room.  Because of increased traffic during concert events, cases should be brought to the rehearsal room and NOT left in the hallway as we do on Saturday mornings.

Following our November concert, we will not have Saturday morning practices again until Saturday, January 11!  I should point out that lessons will continue into December as normal.

Band Pictures after the Concert

As we did last November following our Fall Concert, we will be taking group photos following our Concert on November 24.  Our plan is to have an FVL Photographer take a group photo of each band immediately following the concert.  We will stage the photos in the Commons.  The FVL Photographer will take the "official" photographs first, after which we will give about a minute for parents to get a nice group shot if they wish.  Following your child's group photo, parents are welcome to take individual photos of band students in their uniform.

Schools may also want to use the time following the group photos to take a photo of your schools' band students.  These photos would be excellent additions to your school yearbook or school website!  Parents may wish to check with their school principal or yearbook advisor to see how best your school may use these photos to promote the FVL Schools Band Program.

Concert Dress for the November 24 concert

Here is a reminder  of what our students need to wear for our concert in November (Both Cadet Band and Concert Winds):

Ladies should wear black dress shoes, black socks or black hose, full length black pants (not faded), and a white button blouse with long sleeves. No tennis shoes, leggings, or capri style pants. Do not wear black skirts.

Gentlemen should wear black dress shoes, black socks, black belt, black pants (not faded), and a white dress shirt.

The Concert Winds members will wear a bow tie with their vests, so it is important to have a shirt with a "traditional" collar.

The Cadet Band members will wear a sweater vest for their performances. The vests will be handed out prior to and collected immediately following the concert.

Concert Winds members will receive a vest and bow tie before their performance.  Vests and bow ties will be handed out prior to and should be returned immediately after the concert.

Attendance Volunteers

We are in need of Attendance Volunteers for November 23.  Two attendance takers is best, although one can handle the duty if necessary.

2019 WELS Middle School Honors Band Festival Updates

We are now only one week away from the WELS Middle School Honors Band Festival!  For more background information on the Honors Festival, refer back to the September 27 Update.

Many of our volunteer needs have been filled!  Thanks to so many for their willingness to help out.  We are still in need of adults or high school students to assist with the meal preparations and serving.  Our three food coordinators have the meals and snacks planned.  All we need is additional volunteers to help that day.  As of today there are 3 of 8 spots filled.

Other spots that still have openings include Concert Ushers (6 of 8 filled) and Afternoon Homeroom Monitors (1 of 2 filled).

Fundraiser Results

A HUGE thank you to all of our FVL Schools Band members and their parents for once again making this year's Fall Fundraiser a success!

This year 26 band students participated in the sale.  The totals for those 26 students was pretty impressive!

BROCHURE SALES - $5515 (Last year was $4210)
BROCHURE UNITS SOLD - 369 (Last year was 304)

INTERNET SALES - $3375 (Lat year was $2308)
INTERNET UNITS SOLD - 204 (Last year was 153)

TOTAL SALES - $8890 (Last year was $6518)
TOTAL UNITS SOLD - 573 (Last year was 457)

That translates to a profit for our FVL Schools Band Program of $3580!  Of the $3580 in profit, 50%, or $1790 will go into the FVL Schools Band account, and $1790 will go directly into the individual student accounts.  Six of our students will realize a benefit of over $100 for their band account, while fourteen more will see benefits of between $50 and $100.

Here are the students who sold at least 30 items, in alphabetical order: Kate Grady, Ella Haring, Caleb Huth, Ava Klinger, Carson Motowski (our top seller!), Owen Schroth, Courtney Thede, Aerial Visocky.
