October 31 Update

Regular Rehearsal on Saturday, November 2

We are down to our final three rehearsals for 2019! After our November concert we will not meet again for Saturday rehearsals until January 11.  It is especially important that our band members are in attendance if at all possible these last three weeks.  We are getting closer to "concert ready", but there is still work to do!

Rehearsals leading up to our November concert will be on the following Saturdays:

November 2, 9, 23
November 24 - Fall Concert (2:00 PM)

Please note there is no rehearsal on Saturday, November 16.  We are hosting the WELS Middle School Honors Band Festival that day.  All are welcome to the concert.  It will begin at 6:30 in the FVL Auditorium.

Lesson Schedule Change for November 7

Mr. Neujahr will be participating with the FVL Symphonic Band on Thursday, November 7  at two Veterans Day Programs.  The band will be playing at St. Paul, Appleton and Bethlehem, Hortonville for their programs.

Therefore, Mr. Neujahr will not be giving lessons at St. Peter on Thursday, November 7.

Fall Fundraiser - Order Pick Up

DELIVERY DATE: Saturday, November 2 • 8:00-10:00am

*** ALL ORDERS MUST BE PICKED UP ON THIS DATE *** If you cannot be there for pick up, please make arrangements for someone else to pick your order up for you.  The product pick-up location will be the FVL Auditorium Stage.  We do not have the capability to store items not picked up at FVL, many of which are frozen food products.

Our Fundraiser Volunteer parents will be helping to set up and coordinate the distriubution of products, but if any parents are available to assist with the set up and/or distribution of the products, your help would be much appreciated!  The Hansen's truck will be at FVL by 7:30 AM.  Assistance would be helpful at that time to help organize the products on the stage, and also to help get the proper products to parents who may want to pick them up when they drop off their band students.  More assistance will also be helpful at about 9:30 as parents are coming to pick up their children.  So 8:00 - 8:30 and 9:30 - 10:00 will be the "rush hour" times when most parents will be there for pick up.

PLEASE NOTE for Picking up your order - the door at the end of the music hallway (next to the large garage door behind the stage) will be unlocked this Saturday.  Using that door may give you a shorter distance to your car, especially for those with large orders.  We will also have a few carts on hand that you can use to haul your products to your car.

Concert Vest Fittings

If your son or daughter was not here when we fit the concert vests, we will either fit them prior to the concert or possibly at an upcoming rehearsal.  If some of our vest volunteer moms could simply check with Mr. Neujahr and Mr. Kramer at the beginning of rehearsal, we could send out any students who still need to be fitted.  This process would take just a few moments at the start of rehearsal.

Attendance Volunteers

We are in need of Attendance Volunteers for November 2 (tomorrow) and also November 23.  We have one parent signed up for November 9.  Two attendance takers is better, although one can handle the duty if necessary.

2019 WELS Middle School Honors Band Festival Updates

Saturday, November 16 is fast approaching!  For more background information on the Honors Festival, refer back to the September 27 Update.

Many of our volunteer needs have been filled!  Thanks to so many for their willingness to help out.  We are still in need of adults or high school students to assist with the meal preparations and serving.  Our three food coordinators have the meals and snacks planned.  All we need is additional volunteers to help that day.  As of today there are 2 of 8 spots filled.

Other spots that still have openings include Concert Ushers (5 of 8 filled) and Homeroom Monitors (0 of 2 filled).

October 17 Update

Regular Rehearsal on Saturday, October 19

This weekend is the FVL Schools A-Team Volleyball Tournament.  Many of our students are involved with this as well.  If at all possible, please try to have your kids come to a portion of the rehearsal.  Remember it is OK if they wear their volleyball uniforms to rehearsal!  Thanks to many of our parents and students who have already let us know they will be missing rehearsal due to the tournament.  Volleyball players will still get attendance credit even if they come for a portion of the rehearsal.

Due to the state-wide Teacher's Conferences, there will be no lessons on Thursday and Friday.

Mr. Neujahr will be giving lessons at his schools Monday through Wednesday as normal.

Mr. Kramer's schedule for next week will be as follows:

Monday - NO LESSONS at Trinity, Neenah. There will be lessons at Immanuel, Greenville (special schedule sent by Mrs. Kramer)
Tuesday - NO LESSONS at St. Paul, Appleton. There will be lessons at Immanuel, Greenville (special schedule sent by Mrs. Kramer)
Wednesday - Regular lesson schedule at Emanuel, New London.

 

Also note that we do NOT have a rehearsal scheduled for Saturday, October 26.

October 10 Update

This weekend there are a few soccer or volleyball tournaments.  Many of our students are likely involved.  If at all possible, please try to have your kids come to a portion of the rehearsal.  Remember it is OK if they wear their uniforms to rehearsal!

Fall Fundraiser Updates

Thanks to all of our students, parents, relatives and friends for again doing their best for the Fall Fundraiser!  Preliminary numbers are in, and this may change once we get our final numbers from Hansen's.  We set our goal at $5000 in total sales.  Last year we had $6500 in total sales.  This year we had $3375 in online sales, and $5277 in "paper form" sales for a grand total of $8652!  Nice work everybody!

Concert Dress for the November 24 concert

So that you have adequate time to prepare, here is a summary of what our students need to wear for our concert in November (Both Cadet Band and Concert Winds):

Ladies should wear black dress shoes, black socks or black hose, full length black pants (not faded), and a white button blouse with long sleeves. No tennis shoes, leggings, or capri style pants. Do not wear black skirts.

Gentlemen should wear black dress shoes, black socks, black belt, black pants (not faded), and a white dress shirt.

The Concert Winds members will wear a bow tie with their vests, so it is important to have a shirt with a "traditional" collar.

The Cadet Band members will wear a sweater vest for their performances. The vests will be handed out prior to and collected immediately following the concert.

Concert Winds members will receive a vest and bow tie before their performance.  Vests and bow ties will be handed out prior to and should be returned immediately after the concert.

WELS Middle School Honors Band

Congratulations to seven of our FVL Schools Band members for being selected for the WELS Middle Schools Honors Band Festival! The school programs involved include Fox Valley Lutheran, Illinois Lutheran, Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Lakeside Lutheran, Luther High School, Manitowoc Lutheran, Northland Lutheran, Shoreland Lutheran, Winnebago Lutheran Academy, and Wisconsin Lutheran.  The festival will take place at FVL on Saturday, Saturday, November 16.  The Honors Concert will begin at 6:30 PM.

The students selected from our program include Natalee Springstroh and Aliya Sulzle (Flute), Bethany Fick (Bassoon), Alexander Krueger (Alto Saxophone), Ella Erdmann (Clarinet), Emma Nilson, and Caleb Race (Trombone).  Natalee, Bethany, Ella, Emma, and Caleb were also selected last year.

Many Volunteer Spots are still open for the Honors Festival day.  Please check the September 27 Update for a listing of the volunteer needs, as well as a link to the sign up form.  Thanks for considering!

October 3 Update

Regular Rehearsal on Saturday, October 5

This weekend is also the Neenah Soccer Tournament.  Many of our students are involved with this as well.  If at all possible, please try to have your kids come to a portion of the rehearsal.  Remember it is OK if they wear their soccer uniforms to rehearsal!

PLEASE NOTE:  All paper fundraising forms and all checks must be turned in by this Saturday.  If you have paper form sales/checks and your son or daughter will NOT be at rehearsal the envelope will need to be dropped off at the FVL office by Wednesday, October 9, before 2:00 PM.

Concert Winds will rehearse on the stage this Saturday due to the upcoming FVL Band and Choir concert on Sunday.  Cadet Band will rehearse in the Band Room this week due to an extended FVL Choraliers rehearsal using the choir room and the Fine Arts Room.

Fall Fundraiser Update

We have $2655 in online sales so far!  That compares well to the $1800 we had in sales at this point last year.  There are many more "paper order forms" with more sales.  We will not know that total until after this weekend.  Although the paper forms/envelopes/checks will be turned in at Saturday's rehearsal, the online sales window will still be open until midnight on Monday, October 7!

Early Prizes for Online Sales - Wave Two!

Since we did not have an opportunity to give out a second wave of prizes at the actual "midpoint" of our sales, we will reward students at tomorrow's rehearsal.  The top 6 students with items sold in online sales by Saturday, October 5 will receive a giant box of Theater Candy.  We won't know until Saturday morning who those students are. There is still plenty of time yet this week to make some more online sales to achieve this prize!

All orders & money MUST be turned in on this date. To get your profit be sure to fill in the top 3 lines of the paper forms.  Please turn in BOTH COPIES (white and yellow) of your order form. The order forms will be returned to you on delivery day.

VOLUNTEER REQUEST - it would be very good to have one or two parents on Saturday to receive the form/money envelopes.  The duty will simply include sitting at a table and collect the envelopes/forms from the kids as they enter for rehearsal.  There will also be a check-off sheet so we can keep track of which students turned in forms that day.  If you can help out with this, please let me know by contacting me at jneujahr@fvlhs.org.  Thanks so much for considering!

FVL Band and Choir Fall Sacred Concert

The FVL Band and Choirs will present their Fall Sacred Concert on Sunday, October 6.  The concert will begin at 1:00 PM and will last approximately one and a half hours.  The concert will take place in the FVL Auditorium. It would be fantastic to see our FVL Schools Band members in the audience for this concert.  I know there are many older siblings that go to FVL and participate in band and choir, so those students may already plan to attend.  Seeing the "big band brothers and sisters" from FVL perform is a fantastic way to build excitement for our FVL Schools Band members.  In just a few short years, they will also be a part of a high school band program!
