November 16 Update

Final Rehearsal for 2018

We will be rehearsing this Saturday, November 17.  This is our ninth and final rehearsal in preparation for our Fall Concert.  The Concert Winds will rehearse in the FVL Auditorium, and the Cadet Band will rehearse in the Band Room this week.

Our Concert Winds will be joined on Saturday morning by most of the FVL Symphonic Band members!  This will be a special treat for our younger players to sit in and rehearse with the "high schoolers."  We will be rehearsing the two selections that will be played jointly by the Concert Winds and the Symphonic Band.

Final rehearsal - November  17 (8:15 - 9:45 AM)
November 18 - Fall Concert

Our Fall Concert will begin at 2:00 PM.

The concert will be streamed live on the FVL YouTube channel!  Please let your relatives know about this - grandparents or others who would like to watch the concert but are too far away to attend.  Go to the following link to watch the concert: FVL YouTube Channel.

Saturday Rehearsals take a Break!

Following our concert this Sunday, we will be taking a break from our Saturday rehearsals.  There will be no practices from Saturday, November 24 through Saturday, January 5.  We will resume our Saturday rehearsals again on January 12.

Thanks to parents and students for your continued efforts to attend our rehearsals.  As you know, with only 8-10 rehearsals planned for each semester, student attendance is crucial to our overall success as a performing ensemble.

Reminder of Concert Notes for Sunday, November 18

Our concert on Sunday, November 18, will begin at 2:00 PM, and will take place in the FVL Auditorium.

Students will need to be at FVL by 1:15 PM on the day of the concert so they can receive their vests and have adequate time for group warm up before the concert begins.

For more information about the concert, what to wear, etc., please refer back to our Update for November 9.

Band Pictures after the Concert

As we did last April following our Spring Concert, we will be taking group photos following our Concert on November 18.  Our plan is to have an FVL Photographer take a group photo of each band immediately following the concert.  We will stage the photos in the Commons.  The FVL Photographer will take the "official" photographs first, after which we will give about a minute for parents to get a nice group shot if they wish.  Following your child's group photo, parents are welcome to take individual photos of band students in their uniform.

Schools may also want to use the time following the group photos to take a photo of your schools' band students.  These photos would be excellent additions to your school yearbook or school website!  Parents may wish to check with their school principal or yearbook advisor to see how best your school may use these photos to promote the FVL Schools Band Program.

Lesson Books Completed

It is time to give credit to those students who have completed a lesson book and moved on in our series "Standard of Excellence" and the "Rubank Intermediate" and "Rubank Advanced" Method Books.  Our first lesson series contains two books, 1 (Red) and 2 (Blue). We use the Rubank Intermediate or Advanced Method for students who advance beyond Book 2 of the Standard of Excellence series.  Our percussion students use the "Alfred Method for Percussion."

These students will receive their medals for completing books at Saturday's rehearsal.  It is the tradition of our FVL Schools Band Program for students to wear medals awarded for the concert.  If they have previously been awarded a medal, those can also be worn.

Attendance Volunteers - Sign Up to Help

Thanks to our Attendance Coordinator, Gretchen Adrian, for helping to make sure we have parents to take attendance on rehearsal days!  We have had a wonderful crew of parents for this important task.  If you are interested in helping out, there are openings on various Saturdays for our second semester rehearsals.

The following link will take you to a page where volunteers can sign up to take attendance on various dates.  Only one person is required, but it is nice to have two.  If you sign up for a slot but then are unable to keep it, if it is for the current week, please contact Gretchen Adrian at 920-327-3367. If it is for a slot that is farther out than that week, just remove your name from the sign-up and the slot will be empty for others to see and fill.

FVL Music Apparel

Just in time for early Christmas shopping, we are once again offering the opportunity to purchase FVL Music apparel. This year there are two new designs; you can choose to customize an item with the word "band" or "choir", and/or by adding a name on the back.

Attached please find an electronic flyer that links to a website for viewing and ordering FVL Music apparel. This website is available through Monday, November 19 for online orders, with orders ready for pickup before Christmas break at FVL (you will be notified with pickup details). Just click on the link in the flyer, or go directly to https://fvlmusic18.itemorder.com/sale

Note that if you are ordering any items as Christmas gifts, you can indicate that during the checkout process so that we do not distribute the items to the intended recipients.

November 9 Update

Only Two Rehearsals to Go!

We are now officially in "crunch time"!  Only two rehearsals to go until we present our Fall Concert.  The bands have been making excellent progress since we began rehearsals in September.  Seeing the progress from week to week is the best part of the "journey" that we collectively take to present a finished product. Thanks to all of our directors and band members for their dedication and willingness to make this wonderful music happen is such a short period of time.

Here is our upcoming rehearsal and performance schedule:
November 10 - regular rehearsal
November 17 - regular rehearsal
November 18 - Fall Band Concert

Our Fall Concert will begin at 2:00 PM. This concert will feature our two FVL Schools Bands - the Cadet Band (beginning students) and the Concert Winds (students with more than one year of experience).  The FVL Symphonic Band will also participate in this concert.  It will be a wonderful opportunity to see the entire FVL band program, from beginners to high school!

Students will need to be at FVL by 1:15 PM on the day of the concert so they can receive their vests and have adequate time for group warm up before the concert begins.

Our bands will be sitting together as a group for the concert, so that each band can watch the other performances.  The order of performance will be the FVL Schools Cadet Band, the Concert Winds, and the FVL Symphonic Band.  A special treat this year - the Concert Winds and the FVL Symphonic Band will play two selections as a combined band!  So that you can plan your evening, the concert should be over before between 3:00 and 3:15 PM.

When students arrive on concert day, they should go to their "normal" rehearsal rooms - Cadet Band to the Fine Arts Room and the Concert Winds to the Band Room.  Because of increased traffic during concert events, cases should be brought to the rehearsal room and NOT left in the hallway as we do on Saturday mornings.

Following our November concert, we will not have Saturday morning practices again until Saturday, January 12!  I should point out that lessons will continue into December as normal.

Concert Dress for the November 18 concert

Here is a reminder  of what our students need to wear for our concert in November (Both Cadet Band and Concert Winds):

Ladies should wear black dress shoes, black socks or black hose, full length black pants (not faded), and a white button blouse with long sleeves. No tennis shoes, leggings, or capri style pants. Do not wear black skirts.

Gentlemen should wear black dress shoes, black socks, black belt, black pants (not faded), and a white dress shirt.

The Concert Winds members will wear a bow tie with their vests, so it is important to have a shirt with a "traditional" collar.

The Cadet Band members will wear a sweater vest for their performances. The vests will be handed out prior to and collected immediately following the concert.

Concert Winds members will receive a vest and bow tie before their performance.  Vests and bow ties will be handed out prior to and should be returned immediately after the concert.

November 1 Update

Regular Rehearsal on Saturday, November 3

Counting this rehearsal, we only have three more rehearsals until our concert on November 18.  Things continue to go very well!  Thanks to all of our parents and band members for making such a great effort to attend these important Saturday rehearsals.  Due to a large basketball tournament this weekend, our attendance check-in table may be moved into the music hallway.

Rehearsals leading up to our November concert will be on the following Saturdays:

Our Fall Concert will begin at 2:00 PM. This concert will feature our FVL Schools Bands - the Cadet Band (beginning students) and the Concert Winds (students with more than one year of experience), as well as the FVL Symphonic Band. Fundraiser Reminders

PRODUCT DELIVERY DATE: Saturday, November 3 • 8:00-10:00am

*** ALL ORDERS MUST BE PICKED UP ON THIS DATE *** If you cannot be there for pick up, please make arrangements for someone else to pick your order up for you.  The product pick-up location will be the FVL Auditorium Stage.  We do not have the capability to store items not picked up at FVL, many of which are frozen food products.

Our Fundraiser Volunteer parents will be helping to set up and coordinate the distriubution of products, but If any parents are available to assist with the set up and/or distribution of the products, your help would be much appreciated!  The Hansen's truck will be at FVL by about 7:30 AM.  Assistance would be helpful at that time to help organize the products on the stage, and also to help get the proper products to parents who may want to pick them up when they drop off their band students.  More assistance will also be helpful at about 9:30 as parents are coming to pick up their children.  So 8:00 - 8:30 and 9:30 - 10:00 will be the "rush hour" times when most parents will be there for pick up.

PLEASE NOTE for Picking up your order - the door at the end of the music hallway (next to the large garage door behind the stage) will be unlocked this Saturday.  Using that door may give you a shorter distance to your car, especially for those with large orders.  We will also have a few carts on hand that you can use to haul your products to your car.

Fundraiser Results

A HUGE thank you to all of our FVL Schools Band members and their parents for once again making this year's Fall Fundraiser a success!

This year 29 band students participated in the sale.  The totals for those 29 students was pretty impressive!

BROCHURE SALES - $4210
BROCHURE UNITS SOLD - 304

INTERNET SALES - $2308
INTERNET UNITS SOLD - 153

TOTAL SALES - $6518
TOTAL UNITS SOLD - 457

That translates to a profit for our FVL Schools Band Program of $2671.70!  Of the $2671.70 in profit, 50%, or $1335.85 will go into the FVL Schools Band account, and $1335.85 will go directly into the individual student accounts.  Three of our students will realize a benefit of over $100 for their band account, while nine more will see benefits of between $50 and $100.

Prizes Earned through Sales

Not only do the students get the benefit of a reduction in their student fees, but they also earned Fabulous Prizes for their efforts!  Students who sold 10 - 19 items are eligible for the "Cookie Dough Bar Chocolate Chip 6 Pack". 20 - 29 items sold makes them eligible for a "5 pound bag of Gummi Bears"; 30 - 39 items earns a "Soundflow Sound Board Speaker for Smart Devices", 40 - 49 items earns a "Green Bay Packers Stainless Tumbler"; and 50 or more earns a pair of "HD Camera Sport Glasses"! Pretty exciting!  Students did have the option to select a prize up to the level of items sold, so some elected the Gummi Bears even though they earned a higher prize level.  Overall, 9 students chose the Chocolate Bars; 7 chose the Gummi Bears; 1 chose the Smart Device Speaker; and 1 motivated salesman chose the HD Camera Sport Glasses!

Here are the students who sold at least 30 items, in alphabetical order: Alyssa Bergmann, Elouise Kuehl, Teagan Kuehl, Henry Pape, Mira Reetz, Owen Schroth, Courtney Thede, Leah Uitenbroek, Blake Vanderhoof, Bryce Ziegler, and Grace Zimmerman.

Lesson Schedule Change for November 8

Mr. Neujahr will be participating with the FVL Symphonic Band on Thursday, November 8  at two Veterans Day Programs.  The band will be playing at St. Paul, Appleton and Bethlehem, Hortonville for their programs.

Therefore, Mr. Neujahr will not be giving lessons at St. Peter or Morrison Zion on Thursday, November 8.
