Update for December, 2015

"For to us a child is born, to us a son is given,  and the government will be on his shoulders.  And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."  (Isaiah 9:6)

"But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times." (Micah 5:2)

We rejoice in the birth of our Savior, the little baby Jesus, who would one day suffer and die for us.  We rejoice that He was sent to earth so that we can have the blessed hope of eternal life in Heaven.  From the directors in the FVL Schools Band Program, to all of you - band members, parents, and teachers in our FVL Schools - we wish you a very Merry Christmas!

7th and 8th Grade Solo Music

During the lessons over the next few weeks (and the first week of January if necessary), the 7th and 8th grade band students will be selecting music from the WSMA solo list. Mr. Kramer and Mr. Neujahr will help each student select a solo that best fits their ability. This music will be played on Saturday, March 5, at the WSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival which will take place at Clintonville High School.  All of the FVL high school band students will be participating in this festival as well.  Individual performance times will not be known until about two weeks in advance.  Mr. Kramer and Mr. Neujahr will help the students prepare their music during their weekly band lessons.

All of the solos we will be selecting are included in SmartMusic!  Mr. Kramer and Mr. Neujahr will be able to use the program during the student's lesson to aid in the learning process.  For families that have SmartMusic at home (refer to our SmartMusic Post from the October 3 update if you would like to purchase), your students will have the ability to practice with the rehearsal tools that are available.  Tools include having the ability to slow down the tempo of the accompaniment, recording "takes" so the student can listen to what they sound like, and having SmartMusic tell them what was played correctly or incorrectly by using the Assessment feature.  SmartMusic can also be used as the Accompanist on the day of the solo festival, so it would eliminate the need for an actual pianist.

The solo selection will take place during the next lesson or two.  After that the solos will be ordered, and then during January will be given to the students at their lesson so they can begin working on them.  The FVL Schools Band Program will purchase the music.  If you would like to keep the music, you may certainly purchase the music from us.  Otherwise the music will stay in the FVL Schools Band library after the event is over. Most solos are priced in the $5-10 range.  Some solos, especially those contained in a book with several solo selections, will be priced higher.  Photo-copied music is not allowed at WSMA solo festivals.
