November 22 - Fall Concert

Our Fall Concert will begin at 6:00 PM.

Concert Information for November 22

Our concert on Sunday, November 22 will include performances by the FVL Schools Band Program's Cadet Band and the Concert Winds, as well as the Symphonic Band from Fox Valley Lutheran HS.  The concert will take place in the FVL Auditorium.

Students will need to be at FVL by 5:15 PM on the day of the concert so they can receive their vests and have adequate time for group warm up before the concert begins.  Vests and bow ties will be handed out prior to and should be returned immediately after the concert.

Our bands will be sitting together as a group for the concert, so that each band can watch the other performances.  The order of performance will be the Concert Winds, the Cadet Band, and the FVL Symphonic Band.  So that you can plan your evening, the concert should be over before between 7:10 and 7:15 PM.

When students arrive on concert night, they should go to their "normal" rehearsal rooms - Cadet Band to the Choir Room and the Concert Winds to the Band Room.  Because of increased traffic during concert events, cases should be brought to the rehearsal room and NOT left in the hallway as we do on Saturday mornings.

Ladies should wear black dress shoes, black socks or black hose, full length black pants (not faded), and a white button blouse with long sleeves. No tennis shoes, leggings, or capri style pants. Do not wear black skirts.

Gentlemen should wear black dress shoes, black socks, black belt, black pants (not faded), and a white dress shirt.

Saturday Rehearsals take a Break!

Following our concert this Sunday, we will be taking a break from our Saturday rehearsals.  There will be no practices from Saturday, November 28 through Saturday, January 9.  We will resume our Saturday rehearsals again on January 16.

Attendance has been nothing short of spectacular for the first half of our year!  Thanks to parents and students for your continued efforts to attend our rehearsals.  As you know, with only 8-10 rehearsals planned for each semester, student attendance is crucial to our overall success as a performing ensemble.

Smart Music at Home - Here is a GREAT DEAL!

Next weekend only,  students can buy a SmartMusic subscription for just $20. Now it's even easier for every student to enjoy the focused practice and immediate feedback SmartMusic offers.

If you have been waiting for the perfect opportunity to purchase SmartMusic, this is your chance.  Mr. Kramer and Mr. Neujahr both use SmartMusic in their lessons.  It is a great tool for making practicing at home more fun and it provides immediate feedback with the powerful interactive and assessment capabilities.  In addition, all of our 7th and 8th grade students will soon be getting their solos, and all of our solos this year will be in SmartMusic.  SmartMusic is a fantastic tool to assist in learning a solo.  Not only can the students set the accompaniment to play with them, but they can also listen to their part being played, as well as set the tempo slower or faster to accomadate their skill level.  SmartMusic can also be used the day of the solo festival to accompany their performance.

Update for November 14

Only Two Rehearsals to Go!

We are now officially in "crunch time"!  Only two rehearsals to go until we present our Fall Concert.  The bands have been making excellent progress since we began rehearsals in September.  Seeing the progress from week to week is the best part of the "journey" that we collectively take to present a finished product. Thanks to all of our directors and band members for their dedication and willingness to make this wonderful music happen is such a short period of time.

Here is our upcoming rehearsal and performance schedule:
November 14 - regular rehearsal
November 21 - regular rehearsal
November 22 - Fall Band Concert

Our Fall Concert will begin at 6:00 PM. This concert will feature our two FVL Schools Bands - the Cadet Band (beginning students) and the Concert Winds (students with more than one year of experience).  The FVL Symphonic Band will also play a few selections at this concert.  It will be a wonderful opportunity to see the entire FVL band program, from beginners to high school!

Following our November concert, we will not have Saturday morning practices again until Saturday, January 16!

Reminder of Concert Notes for Sunday, November 22

Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin (LVW) Preview only a week away

Most of our 8th grade band students have received a flyer with information for our upcoming LVW 2016 Preview Day to be held on Saturday, November 21.  The event will run from 1 - 4 PM.  All of our 8th grade band students are welcome and invited to attend, as they are all eligible for this awesome summer marching band.  In fact, many of our 8th graders have already registered to attend this event!  Parents are also invited, as we wil preview our upcoming 2016 season, look at our performance and rehearsal schedules, and talk about our tour to Boston Massachusetts.

Pizza will be served to all in attendance before heading home, so we want all attendees (student and parents) to fill out the Preview Day Registration Form.

Brass and woodwind students should bring their regular band instrument to the Preview Day.  Students who are interested in our Percussion section or Color Guard do not need to bring instruments, as they will be provided.

All students attending should wear comfortable clothing suitable for physical activity (Marching!).  Sweats or shorts are perfectly acceptable.

For much more information about LVW and what it has to offer, visit our Homepage.

As a special "treat", a few of our FVL Band students who have been in LVW for several years will speak to our Concert Winds at Saturday's rehearsal!  We would like all of our FVL Schools Band members to be aware of LVW as a possibility for the future.  We especially want our 8th graders to learn a bit more from a students' perspective.

Parents and students who are Facebook users may want to check our our LVW Facebook Page.  There you will see lots of pictures from previous years and the activities of our LVW members.

Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin - Let Your Light Shine!

All 8th grade band members and their parents are invited to the Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin (LVW) Preview Day on Saturday, November 21, at FVL.  The event will begin at 1:00 PM, and will end with a pizza party (no charge!).   The entire event will be over by approximately 4:00.  It is our hope that all current 8th grade members can join us for this exciting preview event.

LVW is an activity offered through the FVL band program.  It is open to all 8th graders and all high school students and non-band students who are interested in color guard and our "front ensemble".

We are very excited for our upcoming summer!  LVW will be participating in 10 parades and 10 field shows between June 10 and July 16.  We are also going to Boston, Massachusetts and Traverse City, Michigan as part of our 2016 summer tour!

For those who are unfamiliar with our group, Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin is a competitive marching band made up of students from nine WELS high schools:

Fox Valley LHS - Appleton
Kettle Moraine LHS - Jackson
Manitowoc LHS -Manitowoc
Luther HS - Onalaska
Luther Preparatory School - Watertown
Northland LHS -Wausau
Shoreland LHS - Somers
Winnebago Lutheran Academy - Fond du Lac
Wisconsin Lutheran HS - Milwaukee

LVW is also open to ANY WELS student in grade 8 - 12, no matter where they live or what school they attend!  Therefore, public school and home school students are also eligible, as long as they are members of a WELS congregation.

You can view a full-color, twelve page LVW 2016 Membership Information Packet with an overview of our season on our website or access the information HERE.

LVW functions to provide a Christ-centered activity within which students can experience growth, both as an individual and as a member of a group.  Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin has always been one of the finest parade marching bands in the Midwest, and has displayed its excellence on the street with many award-winning performances from Calgary to Minnesota, from Wisconsin and Michigan all the way to Maine, Massachusetts and Georgia!  In the summer of 2010, LVW entered competitive field marching with great success.  This coming summer will undoubtedly bring the same excitement that our LVW family, both students and adults, were treated to for the past thirty-eight years.

Since our founding in 1978, LVW has performed or appeared in Wisconsin, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Wyoming, Alberta, and Ontario.  All our success, however, is governed by one basic philosophy: All that we do is done to the glory of God!

If you would like to learn more about the group, plan on joining us on November 21 for an exciting intro to what life is like in Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin! The day will include information for parents, with special emphasis on answering questions you may have about our group, rehearsal logistics, summer travel, cost, and so on.  Even if you are not sure if LVW is a possibility for this coming summer, please join us to find out what our group can offer your child at some point in their high school career. Students are to bring their woodwind/brass instrument to the preview day.  Percussion students are not required to bring their instruments.

You can also find out much more about Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin on our website at www.lutheranvanguard.org.  We also have a very informative page on Facebook under "Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin".

There is link to the RSVP for the LVW Preview Day on our website's homepage.  So that we can plan accurately for our pizza order, please RSVP by Monday, November 16.

Lesson Schedule Changes for November 9 - 12

Both Mr. Neujahr and Mr. Kramer will be conducting the FVL Symphonic Band on Wednesday, November 11 at the FVL Veteran's Program.  Therefore, lessons for Wednesday will be modified as follows:

Mr. Neujahr will not be giving lessons at St. Mark or St. Paul, Green Bay on Wednesday.  He WILL go to Trinity, Brillion for lessons.

Mr. Kramer will give lessons at St. Paul, Appleton on Thursday, November 12 instead of Wednesday.

Cadet Band - Link to "Fanfare Heroica" Streaming Audio

Mr. Kramer has provided a link to streaming audio for "Fanfare Heroica".  Parents, if your child would like to practice "Fanfare Heroica" with this audio, you could assist them in opening the link, and possibly saving the link for them to have easy access to the audio.

Many of our Cadet Band members have already been playing that song in their lessons with the aid of SmartMusic, so playing along with this streaming audio will be a nice supplement to their instruction.
