Cadet Band and Concert Winds resume rehearsals after a LONG break
After a very restful and LONG six week break, our bands will resume our Saturday rehearsals this weekend. I know our band members and parents had plenty to do over the past month and a half, so the break from rehearsals has been well timed. Now it is time to get back together and continue to make beautiful music!
Schedule for the Second Semester
Please check the FVL Schools Calendar for a listing of the second semester rehearsals and performances. Listed below are our performances for the second semester.
Sunday, January 25 - FVL Winterfest (Concert Winds perform - Time of performance is 12:00 PM)
Saturday, January 31 - Eastern Valley Conference Honors Band and Choir Festival at Ripon HS (for selected students from the Concert Winds). This festival also includes the high school bands and choirs from the EVC.
Saturday, March 7 - Eastern Valley Conference Solo and Ensemble Festival at Waupaca HS. There will be no rehearsal this day, but many of our Concert Winds students will be participating in the Festival by playing their solo.
Wednesday, April 1 - Concert Winds participate in the WSMA Concert Festival at FVL. This will be an adjudicated performance and will satisfy our requirement to be a member of WSMA.
Sunday, April 27 - FVL Middle School Band Concert, 6:00 PM (Cadet Band and Concert Winds)
FVL Winterfest is just around the corner
Our Concert Winds will be performing for Winterfest. Our performance will be at 12:00 PM, and will be in the Auditorium. Students should be at FVL by 11:15 that morning to prepare for our performance. We will have more detailed information in the coming weeks.
We are very excited for the upcoming FVL Winterfest! The theme this year is "The Music of Stage and Screen". If you are unfamiliar with Winterfest, it is the biggest date on the musical calendar for Fox Valley Lutheran HS. All of the FVL Bands and Choirs perform, and this year we will also include performances by some of our schools' Junior choirs! Performing this year will be the Junior Choirs from Riverview Lutheran and Shepherd of the Valley. We will also have a guest performance by the St. Peter, Appleton Church Choir.
"The Music of Stage and Screen" is scheduled for Sunday, January 25. This family friendly event will feature several genres of musical entertainment performed by members of the FVL family. Hours are 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Besides the opportunity to listen to great music, food will be served from the kitchen and desserts will be offered in the canteen. The FVL Schools Parent committee will have a coffee bar. A DJ is set to perform in the children's room from 1 - 3 PM, and the FVL Marionettes will also do a show. There will also be an awesome basket auction with many great items to bid on. Tickets are $3 in advance and $4 at the door. Students 11 and under are free. All proceeds benefit the FVL band and choir programs. All members of the Concert Winds will be admitted free to the event with their FVL Grade School Pass.
Update on two new students to our program
I mentioned in the post from December 23 that we welcome two homeschool students to our program. Here is some updated information. Both began taking lessons in this week at Riverview Lutheran. They also have previous band experience with the Valley Troubadors, a Home School band program from northeast Wisconsin. The two students are Atticus Berghauer - Grade 6, who plays alto saxophone, and Aragorn Berghauer - Grade 5, who is a percussionist. Both students will be members of the Concert Winds.
Inclement Weather Procedures
We have been blessed with excellent weather on Saturdays so far this year. We were fortunate that the recent cold spell missed our scheduled rehearsal dates. This weekend looks to be OK, and MUCH warmer than the past several days. For that we are thankful!
As we get closer to potential inclement weather, remember to check the band's website for information regarding rehearsal cancellations. If a rehearsal is canceled, a notice will always be put on the top of the homepage in bold red letters. If a rehearsal is not canceled, but you feel it is not safe to travel from your location, you can always make the decision to stay home. A notice will not normally be put up prior to Saturday morning, unless we know for certain that the weather on Saturday will not allow for a rehearsal.
If we need to cancel a rehearsal, a decision will be made BEFORE 7:30 AM and the notice will be posted to the top of the website by that time.
