And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger."
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests."
We rejoice in the birth of our Savior, the little baby Jesus, who would one day suffer and die for us. We rejoice that He was sent to earth so that we can have the blessed hope of eternal life in Heaven. From the directors in the FVL Schools Band Program, to all of you - band members, parents, and teachers in our FVL Schools - we wish you a very Merry Christmas!
Lessons will resume on January 5
After a longer than expected break from lessons, we will again resume our regular lesson schedule on Monday, January 5. Mr. Kramer and Mr. Neujahr are very excited to get started with lessons after this long time off. Hopefully our students have taken the time to rehearse their lesson material!
Our next Saturday rehearsal will be on January 10. Again, we certainly look forward to rehearsing with our Cadet Band and Concert Winds! We marvel at the growth shown by both bands over the course of the first semester of rehearsals. That growth will continue throughout the remainder of this year as we prepare for our second semester performances.
This may be a good time to review the FVL Schools Band Calendar. Note that there are more performances for the Concert Winds in the next semester than we had in the first semester. Concert Winds will be performing at the FVL Winterfest on January 25; a WSMA Concert Festival on Wednesday, April 1 at FVL; and at the Spring Concert on April 26. In addition, our 7th and 8th grade students will be participating in the WSMA Solo and Ensemble Festival at Waupaca HS on Saturday, March 7. Our Cadet Band will be performing in the Spring Concert on April 26.
It will be a busy semester! As always, please make every effort for band members to attend our Saturday rehearsals.
Lutheran Vanguard of Wisconsin (LVW) Invitation
This is a reminder that 8th grade students are eligible for LVW 2015. Our first camp of the new season will be held at FVL on January 3-4. Much more information can be found on our LVW Website. Information about the camp can be found there, as well as much more information about our upcoming season. For more information, check out the "Join" tab.
If any of our 8th grade students are interested in attending the camp, please use the RSVP so we can plan ahead. If you need any more information, please don't hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Fall Fundraiser update - Purchase to benefit our program!
Funds raised from our Fall Fundraiser were used to purchase two brand new iPad Air 2 units for Mr. Kramer and Mr. Neujahr! These iPads will be used in our lessons with the SmartMusic application. Mr. Neujahr has been using the program since October, but has had to use his own laptop. Now all of our lesson students will benefit as Mr. Kramer will now be able to use SmartMusic as well. With all of the free and inexpensive Apps for music education offered by the Apple Store, there will be many more uses for these iPads as we move forward. It will be very exciting to do research and try out these Apps, finding those that will most benefit our students and make lessons more productive.
Thanks to all of our parents and students for the very successful fund drive!
Welcome to two new members of the FVL Schools Band Program!
We give a warm welcome to two new members of our program! Aragorn Berghauer is a 5th grade homeschool student. He will be in the Cadet Band and is a percussionist. Atticus Berghauer is a 6th grade homeschool student, and will be joining the Concert Winds. Atticus plays the alto saxophone. They will be taking lessons at Riverview Lutheran School beginning in January. Welcome Atticus and Aragorn!
WSMA Middle Level State Honors Project information is now available
I would strongly encourage our FVL Schools Band students and parents to take a look at the following information provided by WSMA. Each year, many students from the FVL HS Band audition for the High School Honors band and orchestra. Most years, we have students selected for these prestigious groups! This year senior Adam Warnke and sophomore Michaela Brass were selected for the State Honors Band. Both students are graduates of the FVL Schools Band Program!
If parents or students are interested in finding out more about the State Honors Project, I can certainly be of assistance. You can email me (email@example.com) or simply speak to me at one of our upcoming Saturday rehearsals. It is important to know that all students enrolled in our FVL Schools Band Program are considered to be "attending a WSMA member school", so they are all eligible.
