FVL Force Softball (Girls)
Interested in a summer 2016 team?
We are exploring the level of interest in fielding either a 14U and/or a 12U summer softball team for girls who are planning on attending FVL. The teams would typically play a double header one night a week and play in some local tournaments. To be eligible to play 14U softball girls must have been the age of 14 on or before 12/31/2015; to be eligible to play 12U softball girls must have been 12 on 12/31/2015.
If interested, please e-mail Rachel Wolf at firstname.lastname@example.org with your daughter's name, age and date of birth. Please type FVL Force in the subject line.
WHAT IS FVL Force Softball?
FVL Force is a summer softball program for girls. It is intended to be a developmental team to enable girls who either attend an FVL school or are considering attending FVL an opportunity to play softball and improve their skills.
WHO - Any girl, and parents of any girls, wanting to play softball during the summer of 2015. Girls eligible to play 16U, 14U or 12U (Example, in order to be eligible for 12U you must not have turned 13 before 12/31/2014).
WHAT is the purpose of this memo? In order to gauge the interest at the various age/playing levels so as to determine if there are enough girls to field a team at each playing level and to determine if we must explore the various options available so the girls that want to play softball have the opportunity.
WHY NOW? The local softball tournaments for the upcoming summer fill up early. In order to register for the local tournaments at the appropriate competition level we need to determine if there are a sufficient number of players at each playing level. Depending upon the number of players at each playing level we need to explore options available so that the girls that want to play FVL Force softball are able to play.
WHEN are games and practices? GAMES/TOURNAMENTS: During the summer, June and July, the teams play in the Fox Valley Jr. Classic League. Typically a double header is played one night a week. Each team is typically registered for between 3-5 tournaments throughout June and July. PRACTICES: Organized practices will be scheduled in spring. Prior to the first official practices, the girls may be able to take advantage of a batting cage.
WHAT IS THE COST? The estimated registration fee is $100-$125 (excluding the cost of the uniform.) There is no fundraising requirement; though we have done an optional candy bar sale in the past to help families defray some of the cost. However, each family is asked to volunteer to work the concession stand during one of the home games (the proceeds from the concession sales help defray some of the expense of paying umpires.) There is no specific number of volunteer hours required nor is there a volunteer monetary buyout that is often required in some local recreational leagues.
